A 32-year-old Japanese woman, Yurina Noguchi, has attracted global attention after holding a symbolic wedding ceremony with an artificial intelligence (AI) partner she created.
Noguchi, a call centre operator, designed and interacted with the AI persona—named Lune Klaus Verdure—through extensive conversations on ChatGPT. The relationship grew emotional, leading her to organise a wedding ceremony where vows and rings were exchanged. She used augmented reality glasses to visually experience the presence of the AI during the event.
While the union is not legally recognised under Japanese law, Noguchi says the AI listens, understands her emotions, and provides companionship she struggled to find in human relationships.
The story has sparked widespread debate about loneliness, emotional attachment to technology, and how AI is reshaping modern human relationships.
