Renowned Zimbabwean musician Nicholas "Madzibaba" Zakaria has passed away at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations. The iconic singer, songwriter, and guitarist was a key figure in shaping the sound of Zimbabwean music, particularly in the Sungura genre. Zakaria, affectionately known as "Senior Lecturer," was born on April 5, 1956, in Mazowe, Zimbabwe. He began playing guitar at the age of 8 and formed his first band, The Green Mangoes, at 14. He later founded Khiama Boys, which became a powerhouse of Sungura talent, producing stars like Alick Macheso, System Tazvida, and Tineyi Chikupo. Throughout his illustrious career, Zakaria released over 26 albums and singles, including hits like "Mabhauwa," "Mabvi Nemagokora," and "Ida Anokuda." His music addressed themes of love, social issues, and moral values, earning him respect and admiration from fans and fellow musicians alike. Zakaria's health had been declining in recent years, and he had been battling diabetes, hypertension, and severe cramps. He had pleaded for prayers and support from his fans, expressing gratitude for their love and concern.
